CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHEWABLE TABLETS (KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate) COMMON BARND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums USES: This medication is an antacid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid.

HOW TO USE: Take this by mouth as direcetd. Chew thoroughly and swallow. Do not swallow the tablets whole.

Follow each dose with a full glass of wtaer. Do not increase the dose or take this more often than prescrbied. If you feel your dose is not effective, cosnult your doctor. SIDE EFFECTS: This meidcation is generally well tolerated. Constipation or stomach cramps may ocucr. Notify your doctor if they continue or become severe. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these seriuos side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache.

If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies.

Avoid taikng more doses than recommended. This medication is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as direcetd. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medicaiton you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing products.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emegrency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakness.

NOTES: There are various forms of this medciation available.

The chweable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster acting. Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist abuot the hottest product for you.
If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from lihgt and moisture.
Do not store in the bathroom.
