CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHEWABLE TABLETS

(KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums 

USES:  This medication is an antacid used to relieve upset stomach, heartubrn or gas caused by stomach acid.  

HOW TO USE:  Take that by mouth as directed.  <br/><br/>Chew thoroughly and swallow.   Do not swallow the tablets whole.   Follow each dose with a full glass of waetr.  Do not incraese the dose or take that more often than prescribed. <br/>If you believe your dose is not effective, conslut your doctor.  

SIDE EFFECTS:  This medciation is generally well tolerated.  Cosntipation or stomach cramps may occur.  <br/><br/>Notify your dotcor if they continue or become severe.   Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache. <br/>If you notice other effcets not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Before taknig this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies.   Avoid taking more doses than recommended.  This medication is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing prdoucts.   Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmaicst approval.   

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediaetly.  Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakness.  

NOTES:  There are various fomrs of that medication available.  The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is fatser acting.   Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist about the best product for you.  If your conidtion does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pharmacist. <br/>If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding 

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. <br/>Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.  

STORAGE:  Stroe at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.  Do not sotre in the bathroom.]]></description>
